Like a sharp bolt of lightning streaks across the dark sky
Followed by thunder that shakes the ground beneath your feet,
I step outside the back door searching for quiet moments alone,
A crescent moon set high above
Numberless stars sprinkled thickly from horizon to horizon;
Thoughts of being alone vanish
Swallowed by the physical presence of such greatness.
"Who I am, what I was and what I can ever be";
All lost completely
In the wonder of standing silent
And just looking at last with an empty heart and with a numbing vacuum
My soul that yearns, longs and begs for a little more
That must be there!
Then, in a moment as a small child once more
I even kneel and gaze as far as I can
I lift a prayer to God somehow who must hear
And groan from within the emptiness I know -
"Dear God, I do believe."
"Show Yourself to me."
And tears form, deep breaths of night air taken;
And I begin to feel truly free at last,
Something stirs within
A difference that remains,
A difference that I know will grow!
"The Kingdom of Heaven is like a treasure hidden in a field.
When a man found it, in his joy went and sold everything he had,
and bought it." Mathew 13:44-46
