It is time to soar!

Every morning, as many of you, know I post my thought for the day. However, I also have a few places that send me inspirational messages as well. This morning, my message from God was “you are only as free as you imagine yourself to be. There is nothing "out there" that's holding you down, - you are limiting yourself only with your own imagination. And your greatest limits are not even the "cannot" and the "should not", but the places where your imagination hasn't yet gone at all. There has never been a better time for you to open your eyes, let the imagination soar and see what more is possible.”

I had to giggle when I read this as it echoes the first affirmation I have people meditate on in our 27 day and 28 week program. “I am greater than my evaluation of myself.”  When we remove all the lies we have internalized about what we can and cannot do in our lives, then we open ourselves up to all the possibilities which exist. It is like the Princess says to Bastian towards the end of The Never Ending Story, “Fantasia has no boundaries.” What we can accomplish in our lives is boundless. Once we forget all that we have been told, or have told ourselves, we cannot or should not do, then we can evolve in ways and directions that we cannot otherwise imagine.

Some of the most amazing dishes have been created because chefs have been intentional about forgetting what they cannot and should not do. For example, in all the cooking shows that I have watched, I have been carefully taught how to properly cook pasta. It has been drilled into my head to season the water, as it is the one chance to flavor the pasta. I was taught to take it out of the pasta water and put it into the sauce to absorb the sauce and to add a little pasta water, which contains the starch of the water, if needed.

So what happened when I got inspired by something Martha Stewart did and began cooking my pasta, sauce and all the other ingredients in one pot. I have to say it was one of the most flavorful pastas I have ever had. It did not taste like my seasoned with salt pasta, rather it absorbed the flavor of the tomatoes, the basil, and anything else that I put in the pot with it. We see examples of this cooking without boundaries all over the place now, in what has become known as fusion cooking.  It is what happens when we forget that there are all these rules about what one cannot and should not do when cooking a specific cuisine. It is what happens when we forget that you cannot serve a philly cheesesteak in an egg roll wrapper or when you make a smoked salmon cheesecake with an everything crust or when you make seafood fettucine. In each case, one forgets the boundaries and embraces the possibilities.

So this week, let’s forget all that we have been told we cannot and should not do. Let’s follow our imagination and soar.
