It is funny how the universe confirms things for you. I woke up the other morning with this song by Avalon in my heart, called “New Day.” Over the next two days, the conversations between friends and I, and friends and others were all about how today is a new day. The reality is that today is a new day and each moment is a new moment. Each second is a new second. As Alice Walker once wrote, “we are never the same river twice.” Each moment in our lives is a new moment and each day is a new day. The chorus to Avalon’s song says,
It's a new day
Oh, it's a new time
And there's a new way
I'm gonna live my life
All the old has, passed away
And the new has come
Thank God, It's a brand new day
If we think about each moment as a brand new moment, a moment in which we can take our lives in a new direction, we realize there is never a time in our lives when it is too late to evolve, to grow, to transform. Toltec Wisdom teaches we are the authors of our life. If we do not like the direction our life story is taking, then we have the power to write our life into a new direction.
We must, however live in the present; live in this new day. Our pasts are our pasts. When we look back, yes there may be things we wish we had done differently in our lives. Just as some of us have chosen to live in the past at moments, we can also choose to live in the present, remembering this is a new day and one more opportunity for us to do our best and be the best we can be at any moment in our lives, remembering that our best varies from moment to moment. There are times our present might cause us to have concerns about the future. It is during those times, we must stop and think about all we have come through in our lives and know the same faith, strength, and courage, which brought us through the past challenges, will bring us through this one. Your relationship with the same Higher Power whose divine energy you drew on to bring you through the past, which brought you to this place, will bring you through the next challenge and the next. It is a brand new day.
It's a new day
Oh, it's a new time
And there's a new way
I'm gonna live my life
All the old has, passed away
And the new has come
Thank God, It's a brand new day
We have all done things in our life of which we are not proud. Many of us have experienced things in our life whose memories have haunted us for parts of our lives. The secret is that the secrets and memories of our past are escapable and they do not have to have the power to haunt us. They stay alive in us because we have not yet released them and moved through them. We can move through even the most traumatic of events. Victor Frankl, a Holocaust survivor, shares how even in the midst of our worst life event, we are blessed with the ability to move through them, discover new strengths in us, and gain clarity about our purpose in life. On the other hand, some of us have done things in our past which we are not proud of and have carried the shame of our past with us into the present. Some of us carry the fear of others discovering how we used to be. Who we were then is not who we are now. Acknowledge your past and celebrate how far you have come in your life journey. We are new individuals living in a new day.

Just for today, focus on living in the present. Celebrate each moment for what it is. See the blessings and beauty in life. Celebrate who you are now. Celebrate all you have brought yourself through. Live your life in the present and give thanks because it truly is a new day!
